The French macaron - not to be confused with the coconut macaroon - is a confectionery whose name is derived from an Italian word “maccarone,” meaning paste. It is meringue-based, simply made with egg whites, almond flour, and powdered sugar.
The birthday cake I made for Zoe (: I even made the macarons which was very interesting and definitely turned my hands to the same coral color to match! The cake had to journey all the way down to La Jolla… and it got a little damaged on the trek (stupid traffic and horrible roads in La Jolla) but luckily I photographed it beforehand (:
